Arctostaphylos alpina plant association (Alpine blueberry)

Arctostaphylos alpina (25% cover) codominates this association with Vaccinium uliginosum (15%), Cornus canadensis (20%) and Empetrum nigrum (20%, Appendix 4). Few other shrub or herbaceous species occur. Lichen cover is 20%.
This association occurs in alpine areas and forms small patches within a mosaic of other dwarf shrub associations. It commonly occurs on well-drained colluvial slopes. The soil of the one site sampled had a 3-centimeter thick organic mat over silt and sand.
